Physical Eyes and Spiritual Eyes

2 Kings 6:14-17

Introduction: Fog severely hinders flying, sailing, and driving. At a foggy airport, it is impossible for a plane to take off and land because the runway is not seen clearly. At a foggy port, ships often collide with each other because they can't see well. Moreover, on the expressway, tens of hundreds of cars crash one after another because of fog. If we live with only physical eyes, it is like we are sailing, flying, and driving on the expressway in mist. We can't see anything but things right before our eyes, so we are often hopeless, frustrated, and despondent.

1. The forces of Aram that surrounded Dothan city.

1) The anguish of the king of Aram and Elisha (2 Ki 6:8-12).

(2 Ki 6:13-15).
3) Those who are with us are more (2 Ki 6:16)
4) The spiritual eyes of the servant were opened (2 Ki 6:17)

2. The enemies that are surrounding us and our forces.

1) Sinful forces seen by physical eyes.
- However, the forgiveness of the blood of the Cross, righteousness, and the forces of
glory seen by spiritual eyes (Gal 1:4).
2) Secular things, the devil, and the forces of greed seen by physical eyes.
- The power of the blood, holiness, and the forces of the Holy Spirit seen by spiritual
eyes ( Heb 9:22, 1 Co 6:11).

4) The forces of the curse seen by physical eyes.
- Abraham's blessing and the forces of the grace of Jesus seen by spiritual eyes
(Gal 3:13-14, 2 Co 8:9).
5) The forces of death and hell seen by physical eyes.

3. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed.

1) We are a holy nation.
(1) The heavenly border on earth (Mt 18:20, Lk 17:21, Rev 1:6).
(2) The place where there is God's sovereignty and reign.
- Although we are hard pressed by the world and the devil, we are surrounded by
the forces of God (Ps 34:7, 1 Jn 5:18).
2) We are perplexed, but not in despair.
(1) We have been purchased by the blood of Jesus (Rev 5:9, Eph 1:7).
(2) We have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and belong to God
(2 Co1:22, Eph 1:13-14).
- We are hard pressed, but we are in God, for He cares for us (Ro 8:28, Jn 16:33).
3) We are persecuted, but not abandoned.
- Enemies persecute us, but we are the dwelling place and temple of God
(Ro 8:31-34, 1 Co 3:16, Heb 13:5-6).
4) We are struck down, but not destroyed.
- We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Ro 8:13-18, Tit 3:7).
