The Law and Grace
John 1:17
Introduction: A mirror is one of many inventions that have changed our lives. Human beings invented the mirror and can see themselves objectively when they look in the mirror. The mirror shows people their true appearance, but the mirror cannot do anything to help them. It cannot wash away their filth or arrange their messiness reflected in the mirror. In this regard, the Law is like a mirror. The Law reveals that we are sinful, unrighteous, filthy, and abandoned. The Law judges us, but it has no power to save us. We can clean our dirty body with water or repair our physical features with plastic surgery, but our inner filth can only be removed by the grace of God, the blood of Jesus, and by the Holy Spirit.
1. The perspective of the Law, and the perspective of grace
혻혻 * Concerning a prodigal son in the Bible
1) The perspective of his brother - it was wrong for his father to accept his prodigal son who혻squandered all possessions on prostitutes (Lk 15:30)
2) The perspective of the father ??it was right to accept and welcome his prodigal son because he혻was lost and found, and assumed dead but was alive (Ps 103:12-13)혻
2. The Law is for judgment, and grace is for salvation
혻혻 * Moses' disciples brought a woman who was caught in adultery
혻혻 1) They said, "She must be stoned to death as it is written in the Law." (Jn 8:5)
2) Jesus said, "Anyone of you who has no sin can stone her - everyone is a sinner before the Law.
혻혻혻혻혻 I do not condemn you. Go and sin no more." (Ro 3:10)
3. The Law is from Moses, and grace and truth are from Jesus
1) The Law given in Mt. Sinai - to reveal the sins of human beings and judge them strictly (Ro 7:13)
혻혻 2) The Law shows that human beings cannot save themselves by their own efforts (Gal 3:10-12)
3) The Law is a young child's tutor, who leads him to look to Jesus for salvation (Gal 3:23-25, 2:16)
4. Priceless grace
1) Jesus the Son of God who was born under the law without sin - that's why He can bear the sins혻of the human community (the wages of sin is death. Only Jesus can pay the debt.)
(2Co 5:21, Gal 4:4-5, 1Jn 2:2, Ac 4:12)
혻혻 2) No sin is forgiven without being punished
혻혻혻혻혻 (1) An individual person is destroyed if he is punished (Eze 18:4, Ro 6:23, 7:24, Heb 9:27)
혻혻혻혻혻 (2) Jesus can overcome punishment and win - His death on the Cross and resurrection
???????????????(Ro 8:3, 4:25)
3) We receive salvation by faith through His grace - we can receive혻it freely because it is priceless
(Ro 3:23-24, Eph 2:8, Col 2:6-7)
Conclusion: Grace is like a fence. If we go beyond the fence, the Law catches us and judges us every day. We must always live by faith in the Lord Jesus?봧nside the fence of grace.
