The Effort for a Happy Home
Ephesians 5:22-33 (NIV)
22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.

Introduction: A family consists of parents and their children connected by blood. Therefore, it has more intimacy, warmth, and love than any other kind of group. However, families are so easily destroyed and broken apart. Why is that so?

1. A husband and wife, a sacred union.

1) Animals mate to reproduce their own species.
2) Human marriage.
(1) It is not good to live alone (Ge 2:18).
(2) The relationship by sharing bones, not flesh (Ge 2:21-24).
(3) Live together until death (Ro 7:1-3).

2. The relationship between a husband and wife.

1) A relationship based on equal human rights?ë´²ymbolically shared ribs (an equal relationship) (Gal 3:28).
2) The relationship of head and body (Eph 5:22-24).
(1) The head leads the body and is responsible for the security and peace of the body.
(2) The body should absolutely obey the guidance and decision by the head.
3) The interrelationship between love and obedience.
(1) Love brings obedience (Eph 5:25; 1Co 13:4, 7).
(2) Hatred brings betrayal (Eph 5:29; Pr 10:12; 17:1).

3. How to have a harmonious relationship between a husband and wife.

1) Make an effort to understand and be understood. Engage in conversation.
Do not overcome the other person by force (Ro 12:16; Pr 15:4).
2) Sympathize with your spouse. Indifference brings wounds. Show a lot of comfort and praise (1Pe 3:8; Pr 12:18; 15:23).
3) Be patient unconditionally.
(1) The game you lose when you win.
(2) The game is even although you lose (Pr 12:16; 19:11).
4) Do not consider the other person as your personal property.
(1) Excessive intervention.
(2) Excessive invasion of privacy (1Co 7:3-4).
5) Cooperate for the other person's happiness. Pray for the other person (1Pe 3:7;
Col 4:2; Eph 5:31, 33; Ps 128:1-3).

Conclusion: It is never easy for a man and woman with different personalities, family, education, and life experiences to live together as husband and wife. The way to overcome countless trials and difficulties is to love each other with the love of the Cross.
