Lift up Your Eyes to God

Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)

“1 I lift up my eyes to the hills?where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Introduction: A person was faced with great trouble in his life. His mountainous problem pressed on him so hard that he even choked while asleep. Then he cried out for help and realized that God, the creator of heaven and earth, was with him.

1. The Lord who comes walking on the sea to Peter.

1) When Peter lifted up his eyes to Jesus, a miracle took place (Mt 14:28-29).
2) When Peter looked at the wind and the waves, he began to sink (Mt 14:30-32).

2. Look at Jesus who was nailed on the Cross.

1) He walks on the waves of sin (Ro 8:1-2).
2) He walks on the waves of worldliness and impurity (1Co 6:11; 1Jn 3:8).
3) He walks on the waves of disease (Isa 53:4-5).
4) He walks on the waves of the curse and trouble (Gal 3:13-14).
5) He walks on the waves of death (Jn 11:25-26).
   - Do not look at your surroundings. Look at Jesus (Heb 12:2).

3. Where does my help come from?

1) God will not slumber, so our feet will not slip (Ps 121:3-4).
2) God watches over us (Ps 121:5-6; 23:4).
3) God will keep us from all harm (Ps 121:7-8; Dt 8:16).

Conclusion: Our true help does not come from a mountain of worldly power or money but from our God, the creator of heaven and earth. Therefore, we must lift up our eyes to God, not the mountain.
