Inner Healing
Proverb 17:22, NIV
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
Introduction: People try their best to heal their physical pain and illness because it is visible. However, many tend to ignore the pain of their heart because it is not noticeable. But the sickness of the heart can be more painful than that of the body and can even lead to suicide. What should we do with such pain in our hearts that tears our joy and happiness into pieces?
1. When you cannot forgive the debts of the heart.
⊙ The story of the servant who was forgiven his debts but did not cancel his fellow servant's small debt. The reason why the servant was turned over to the jailors (Mt 18:23-35).
1) Jesus who hung on the Cross canceled the sins of sinners (Ro 3:23-24).
2) When we have hatred for someone who owes us a small debt and fails to cancel his debt.
3) We will be turned over to the jailers until we pay back all we owe (Mt 6:14-15).
2. The debts of revenge and hatred.
1) A woman who suffered from serious arthritis. She divorced 10 years ago and still hated
her ex-husband. No medicine will work until she forgives her ex-husband (Col 3:13-14).
2) A conversation between a doctor and law school student who badly suffered from a bleeding gastric ulcer (Mt 5:43-44; Mk 11:25).
3. Wounded memories within my heart.
1) The testimony of a lady who was opinionated, always struggling to get the credit for what she did.
- A poor little girl who was abused and suffered from a sense of inferiority (Pr 17:22).
2) A person who always doubts others with hostility.
- Heal the wounded boy who was neglected and abandoned many times (Pr 18:14; 2Co 5:17).
Conclusion: Most people tend to bury their wounded memories in their heart. However, the wounded self constantly cries and suffers, and it brings us various kinds of mental sickness. We should open our hearts to Jesus and forgive, repent, heal, and forget all of our wounds.
