Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life
(John 11:21~26)

Introduction
The founder of a religion would like to guarantee eternal life and paradise to his followers. But to prove the authenticity of his words he would have to both die and come back to life again. Death is the ransom for sin. No man can truly be set free from death unless someone else pays the ransom for his sins. Why do we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection in such extravagance? We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus in such extravagance because Jesus is the only one who died and was buried in the tomb for three days and rose again. Jesus took all the sins of humankind into the prison of death. Three days later, Jesus came back to life again and proved that it is indeed through Him that all mankind’s sins are forgiven. Whoever then believes in Jesus Christ will be set free from sin and death.
?
1. Jesus was conceived through the Holy Spirit
1) Every human being is born of Adam into slavery of sin and death.
2) Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary through the Holy Spirit, not of Adam’s seed.
Therefore, Jesus had nothing to do with sin or death. Since Jesus was not indebted to sin, he was able to pay off the wages of sin on behalf of humankind. Jesus suffered in our stead.

2. Jesus is the resurrection and the life (He testified of his resurrection)
1) The death of Lazarus
① If you had been here, my brother would not have died.
② Your brother will rise again
2) I am the resurrection and the life (not future but present tense)
- “He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”
3) The authority and power over death and life lies in Jesus * (John 10:17-18)
4) Jesus chose to die on our behalf, be buried, and rise again because of His great love for us.
- The power of the devil has been shattered and invalidated by the resurrection of Jesus
  - The heaven begins with the resurrection of Jesus.?

3. Jesus rose again
1) Jesus’ enemies believed that the story of Jesus’ resurrection was fabricated. Still, they were afraid that this story would become a rumor.
2) Jesus’ enemies, with Pilate’s consent, had Roman soldiers guard his grave.
3) Jesus was resurrected in the early morning of the first day after the Sabbath.
4) Grace of God was brought to mankind through the resurrection of Jesus (Jn 16:7-11).
  - The era of the Spirit has arrived.

Conclusion
We were once dead in Adam but have been raised again in Jesus. We were once in slavery to the devil in Adam; but now we are free to God in Jesus.
