God’s Rest
(Hebrews 4:1-11)

Rest literally means to stop carrying a burden and take a break. Rest from a human perspective means to stop working temporarily and take a breather though there's still a long way to go. But the rest that God offers is complete rest after completing all duties. The rest we are talking about is the perfect rest of God.

1. God’s rest
- Creation of the universe in six days.
1) He created the universe in 6 days and rested on the 7th day-the rest taken after
completing everything.

2) Adam's rebellion and true rest interrupted
①. The rest offered to Adam was conditional-absolute obedience and absolute faith.
②. Adam lost God' rest through disobedience and unbelief.
3) Disobedience led to unwanted consequences.
①. Sin and evil ②. Degradation ③. Diseases ④. Curses ⑤. Death and hell
- Human beings are infected with a disease which leads them to death.

2. New rest
1) Accomplished in order to restore lost rest.
①. Jesus' suffering on the Cross * (Isa. 53:1-8)
2) Jesus accomplished everything.
①. Jesus was resurrected on the Sabbath, the 7th day.
②. New rest- Fivefold gospel and threefold blessings.

3. Invitation to partake of the new rest
1) To receive Jesus' complete work of salvation
2) Dream, believe, and speak of entering into the rest of Jesus.
3) Absolute faith and absolute obedience * (Heb. 3:11-14, 4:1-9)
4) Total dependency on the Holy Spirit

The same devil who tempted Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden is still trying to keep us
from entering into the new rest of God through disobedience, pride, arrogance, greed, covetousness, unbelief and doubt. We should repent of our pride, greed, unbelief, and disobedience everyday. Then, we should enter into God's rest with absolute obedience and absolute faith.
