The Outward Person and the Inward Person
(2 Co 4:16-18)
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Before we believe in Jesus, we cannot distinguish the outer man from the inner man. Since we believe in Jesus as our savior, however, we are born again and become a new creation, making clear distinction between the old self and the new self. Starting from that moment, there begins a war over hegemony inside us.

Our life is a battle between the outward person and the inward person. Even Apostle Paul once lamented saying that “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?”
Only through the words and the Spirit, we become changed gradually. Just as a child grows up, our faith also grows up gradually while making a lot of mistakes.
