Saying “It Is Finished”
(John 19:30)

Genesis records that God created the world and rested on the last day. After creating all things, God saw that the work of creation was completed and took a rest. By pouring out water and blood and saying “it is finished” when nailed on the cross, Jesus declared the completion of the work that saves humanity. The only thing we can do now is to know, believe, and spread the grace that Jesus finished on the cross to the world.

1. What did He finish?
1) Adam and Eve rebelled against the word of God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Consequently, man’s spirit died and the land was cursed, producing thorns and thistles. (Romans 5:12)
2) Adam and Eve, who fell into the devil’s temptation and rebelled against God, became slaves of the devil and were enslaved by the devil in the cursed land. (Ephesians 2:2)
3) Adam committed sin and was not able to come back to life no matter how much effort he made. (Ephesians 2:8~9)
4) Jesus came as the second Adam, bore the sin of the first Adam, suffered and died on the cross. This, in turn, brought liberation and freedom for us. (Isaiah 53:4~12)

2. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened!
1) Human beings are weary and burdened. All human beings live carrying the burdens of sins and diseases, anxiety and fear, and meaninglessness of life and despair of death.
2) Human beings cannot get rid of the burden of sins on their own no matter how hard they try. The Lord is inviting those who are in absolute despair to come to Him. (Matthew 11:28)
3) The Lord said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.” Jesus’ yoke is gentle and humble, and absolute obedience to God is gentle and humble. Jesus’ yoke is easy, light, and gives rest for our souls. (Matthew 11:29~30)

3. God values faith highly
1) Faith is the virtue that God values, seeks, and lifts up the most.
2) People who God loved and lifted up were the people of faith. (Hebrews 11:32~40)

We must invite Jesus, who saved our lives, deep into our hearts. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and always live joyfully, giving thanks and praise. We must believe in, lift up, give thanks for, and dance with joy for the grace of Jesus who carried our burden of sins, suffered and died on the cross. The way to our life is to live by faith alone.
