Flesh Gives Birth to Flesh; the Spirit Gives Birth to Spirit
(John 3:6)

The conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus in John chapter 3 teaches about being born again. When Nicodemus who was a leader of the Jewish came to Jesus, Jesus said, “No one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” However, Nicodemus couldn’t understand Jesus and asked, “How can a man be born when he is old? Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born.” Then, Jesus said, “Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit,” and taught him about what being born again is.

1. What was man created from?
1) Human beings are made up of spirits and bodies. Their spirits died due to sin. (Gen. 2:16~17)
2) Before human beings’ spirits died, they were able to communicate with God as the fourth dimensional beings. However, they couldn’t go before God because of sin and were able to live as the third dimensional beings. (Gen. 2:7)
3) Therefore, when human beings’ spirits come to life by receiving forgiveness of sins, they can communicate with the Holy Spirit. (Eph. 2:1)

2. How is man regenerated?
1) Man can be regenerated when believing in the redemptive grace of Jesus’ cross. (2 Cor. 4:10~11)
2) Even if the earthly tent is destroyed, we have a house in heaven built by God. (2 Cor. 5:1~2)

3. A Christian’s life activity
1) A person who is born again lives by eating the word of God as the spiritual meal. (Matt 4:4)
2) A person who is born again lives by communicating with the Holy Spirit. This is spiritual breathing. (John 14:26)
3) A person who is born again lives by serving God, doing various volunteering work. (Eph. 4:11~12)

4. The third dimensional life and the fourth dimensional life
1) The third dimensional life is to follow human’s reason, wisdom, human-centrism, and atheism. (Ps. 10:4)
2) The fourth dimensional life is to communicate with the Holy Spirit by having the inner person alive. It is to grow every day by following the guidance of the word and the Holy Spirit, and to live God-centeredly. (Ps. 119:105)

Conclusion
God wants all people to be saved. So by giving His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross, He has allowed people who believe in Jesus to not perish but have eternal life. People who believe in the redemptive grace of Jesus’ cross will be born again as new creations.
