Guard Your Heart
(Prov. 4:23)
There are indicators that allow us to predict the future in each area of life. Weather can be predicted through weather forecast, and economic trends can be predicted through stock price index or price index. Then, what can we predict our future with? That is our heart. If we look at the condition of a person’s heart, we can predict his future. The Bible says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Prov. 4:23) When we fill our hearts with the word of grace, we can expect a bright and hopeful tomorrow.
1. Anxiety and fear of our lives
1) Human beings who have a broken relationship with God since Adam committed sin are living in the midst of anxiety and fear. Anxiety makes bodies and hearts sick and makes people to not enjoy a happy life. (Prov. 17:22)
2) People who believe in and rely on God can conquer anxiety and fear. (Prov. 3:5)
2. Weak human, powerful God
1) Human beings are weak. Jesus said, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Even though human beings worry, they are weak who cannot even extend their life. (Matt. 6:30~32)
2) We are never weak because we have Jesus who is treasure in us. (2 Cor. 4:7~10)
3. Don’t be afraid
1) God does not want us to be afraid. God called us by choosing us as His children and promised that He will never abandon us. (John 1:12)
2) Almighty God is always with us. He is helping us and holding us. Therefore, we do not need to be afraid or be discouraged no matter what kind of situations we face. (Isa. 41:10)
Conclusion
If worries and fear are filled in your heart, you are an unfortunate person. People who believe in God are happy. This is because the Holy Spirit is in them and helps them to live a life where they are always joyful, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances. If the Holy Spirit is with us, evil spirits cannot harm us. Therefore, if we live with God, we are truly happy.
