To Save the World
(John 3:14~21)

When the Israelites who were passing through the desert committed sins and were dying because they were bitten by venomous snakes, Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole, following God’s command. When the people who were dying bitten by venomous snakes looked at a bronze snake on a pole, they all came back to life. Jesus said, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” (John 3:14-15) Because Jesus died on the cross by carrying human beings’ sins, whoever believes in Jesus will receive forgiveness and salvation.

1. Adam, the first ancestor of humans
1) Human beings are all connected to the umbilical cord of Adam who committed sins and are born as sinners. (Rom. 5:12)
2) As a result, human beings live by being tied to sins, diseases, curses, and death. (Gen. 3:16~19)

2. Jesus, the new ancestor of humans
1) Jesus came as the last Adam in order to save humanity. He became the new ancestor of humans by dying on the cross and being resurrected. (Rom. 5:19)
2) People who believe in Jesus are born again as God’s children who enjoy forgiveness of sins, righteousness, holiness, healing, the blessings of Abraham, resurrection, and the blessings of eternal life. (Rom 5:16)

3. The portrait of two kinds of humans
1) Those who are in Adam do not believe in God as the ones whose spirits have died due to sin. (Ps. 10:4)
2) Those who are in Jesus live by serving God after being born of the Holy Spirit. (John 3:5)
3) Jesus’ death is my death. Jesus’ resurrection is my resurrection. (2 Cor. 4:10~11)

Conclusion
We became God’s children by believing in Jesus and being born of the Holy Spirit. Even today, God is telling His children, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isa. 41:10) We must hold onto this promised word and move forward with strong and bold faith by not being discouraged no matter what kind of situations we face.
