True Neighbor
(Lk 10:25~37)

An expert in the law came to Jesus and asked about the path to gain eternal life. Jesus asked what is written in the Law and the expert in the law answered, “Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor as yourself.” When the expert in the law asked again, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus answered with a parable.

1. The parable of the one who ran into a robber
1) A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. When the man got bloody and was dying, a priest saw the man, but passed by on the other side.
2) A few minutes later, a Levite saw the man, but passed by on the other side.
3) A Samaritan took pity on the man and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.

2. The lesson for us
1) In fact, due to Adam’s sin, all people who are born in this world are the ones who fell into the hands of robbers. They are living their lives by having righteousness, holiness, health, abundance and eternal life taken away.
2) Jesus took pity on us, washed away our sins with the precious blood of the cross and bandaged all wounds that stemmed from sins with love. Anyone who comes to Jesus will gain eternal life by being freed from sins, filthiness, diseases, poverty and death.
3) By believing in Jesus, we now have a new status and identity. We must clearly know that we have righteousness, holiness, health, blessings and eternal life.

3. Let’s be good neighbors
1) We who are saved by believing in Jesus must become neighbors to those who fell into the hands of robbers.
2) In the same way the Good Samaritan helped the man with what he had, we must help our neighbors with what we have. When we live a life of sharing and giving, God gives blessings.

Conclusion
Jesus saved us who were dying due to sin. As the debtors of Jesus’ limitless grace and love, we must go close to those who are suffering and become good neighbors to them. Just as Jesus took pity on us, we must take care of our neighbors who are facing difficulties, lend a hand of love and share things with them.
