Let’s Take off the Weary and Heavy Burden
(Lk. 4:18~21)

Since birth, human beings live by carrying laborious and heavy burdens during their lifetime. There may be differences in the size of the burdens, but there is no one who does not have the burdens of life. This is the fate that the descendants of the first Adam need to carry. In order to save humanity from suffering that stemmed from sin, Jesus came as the last Adam to earth. If people believe in Jesus and accept Him as the Savior, they are able to take off the heavy burdens of life and enjoy true peace and rest in the Lord.

1. All you who are weary and burdened
1) The laborious and heavy burdens of life stemmed from Adam and Eve’s sins. As a result of their rebellion against God’s command, every life is filled with thorns and thistles.
2) The devil holds the sins of human beings as their weaknesses and tries to steal and kill and destroy them. Because the devil is the source of greed, the devil puts greed into people’s hearts and endlessly brings conflicts and fighting among them. Consequently, all things in life are laborious and tiring.

2. I will give you rest
1) Jesus came to earth as the last Adam that represents humanity. Through the death on the cross and resurrection, Jesus destroyed the devil and gave us who were living under the control of the devil freedom and liberation. Therefore, there is true rest only in Jesus.
2) In order to take off various burdens of life and to gain peace and rest, we must come to Jesus. We first need to believe in Jesus and take off the burdens of sin so that all will go well with us and that we will enjoy good health.

3. My yoke is easy and my burden is light
1) Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Jesus has a gentle and humble heart. We must have gentle and humble hearts to learn things from Jesus.
2) Jesus died on the cross by carrying our burdens of sin on behalf of us and was resurrected. He is inviting us by saying, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened.”

Conclusion
In life, there are various burdens such as the burdens of sins and transgressions, the burdens of diseases and poverty and the burdens of death. Psalm 55:22 says, “Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” If we commit our burdens of life to the Lord and obey Him with a gentle and humble heart, the Lord will take off every burden and give us true peace and rest.
