My Heart Is Steadfast

Psalm 57:7-11, NIV
7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. 8 Awake, my soul!
Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 9 I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

It is very important for people to guard their hearts (Pr 4:23). When our hearts are broken, we lose everything we have. David, the second king of Israel, went through many trials but he always guarded his heart, and he was acknowledged as a man after God's own heart (Ac 13:22). When David hid from Saul in a cave, David wrote this poem. In great danger before his enemy, he praised God saying, "My heart is steadfast; my heart is steadfast."

1. Steadfast faith (Ps 57:7).
God always accomplishes His will through people of faith. All the heroes of faith shown in Hebrews chapter 11 devoted themselves to achieving the will of God with steadfast faith. Become a person of faith. God is looking for a person of faith. Jesus rebuked His disciples who were afraid of the storm. ?쏽ou of little faith, why are you so afraid???(Mt 8:26). David boldly proclaimed even in despair, "My heart is steadfast." Do not waver, but be steadfast in your faith.

2. Prayer that awakens the dawn (Ps 57:8).
Human history has been developed by ?쐃arly bird??type of people. God helps us at dawn. The Red Sea was separated at dawn (Ex 14:21). The Israelites got up at dawn to march around Jericho, and the wall collapsed (Jos 6:15). After Jesus died on the Cross and defeated the power of sin and death, He was gloriously raised from the dead before dawn (Mt 28:1-2; Mk 16:2-4). When we pray, God helps us. Dawn symbolizes hope.

3. A life of giving thanks (Ps 57:9).
David gave thanks to God in suffering. Giving thanks is the duty of Christians. We glorify God when we give thanks to Him (Ps 50:23). We must give thanks to God with steadfast faith in every situation we face (1Th 5:18). God is pleased with our thanks. Only the person of faith can give thanks to God even in trouble. David gave thanks to God without resenting and complaining in times of trial. David had the steadfast faith that God was with him in suffering (Ps 23:4-5).

4. A life that gives glory to God (Ps 57:11).
The purpose of life is to give glory to God (Isa 43:7). In this psalm, David begins his prayer by crying out to the Lord in his trials and finishes his confession by glorifying God. Our ultimate attitude in life must be in giving glory to God. When God is glorified, everything will go well. We must give glory to God at all times.

When we face difficulty and despair, we must guard our hearts and have steadfast faith. Through prayer that awakes the dawn?봦olding on to the Cross of Jesus?봶e have to experience God's helping hand. We must not be resentful or complain in times of trial but give thanks and praise to God. When we live a life that always glorifies God in everything, He will take charge of our lives.
