The Spirit of the Lord Is on Me

Luke 4:17-19, NIV

17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

God has chosen us and called us to become His children and has given a mission to all of us. In Jesus??first sermon in Nazareth, we can clearly see the purpose of life as the children of God.

1. To preach good news to the poor (v.18a).
Jesus came to earth and preached the good news to the poor. Here, being poor indicates both physical poverty (2Co 8:9) and poverty of spirit (Mt 5:3). Our Lord makes them rich?봳hose who are spiritually or physically poor?봳hrough the Holy Spirit and good news.

2. To set the prisoners free (v.18b).
Jesus proclaimed freedom for the prisoners. Here, prisoners refer to spiritual captives of sin and the devil. Before believing in Jesus Christ, they were led by the devil to commit sin. However, they are now liberated and enjoy freedom because of the power of the Cross of Jesus Christ (1Jn 3:8).혻혻혻혻

3. To recover sight for the blind (v.18c).
Anyone can experience the infinite spiritual world if he/she meets Jesus who died on the Cross and rose again (Eph 1:17). Before believing in Jesus, our spiritual eyes were blind, and we could only see worldly things. However, after we believe in Jesus, our spiritual eyes are open so that we can see the new heaven, the new earth, and the kingdom of God.

4. To release the oppressed (v.18d).
Jesus came to earth to release the oppressed. Jesus Christ is the only one who can free us from anxiety, worry, concern, and stress. When we come to Jesus, pray, and leave everything to Him, we can be released from everything that oppresses us, through the power of the Holy Spirit (Ps 55:22).

5. To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor (v.19).
Jesus proclaimed the year of the Lord?셲 favor. The year of the Lord?셲 favor refers to jubilee for Israel, the year of joy, delight, and liberation. We are now living in the time of God's favor (2Co 6:2). If we believe in Jesus, God will redeem all of our sins and give us true freedom and grace.

Jesus is the only one who can deliver us from the swamp of misery. I pray that your spiritual eyes will be opened, so that you can look at the kingdom of God and have a blessed life by accepting Jesus.
