David and Goliath

1 Samuel 17:45-47, NIV
혻45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.
47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give all of you into our hands."

In our lives, we face unexpected problems big and small. Sometimes they seem too taxing to handle. How can we resolve such problems and difficulties? One of the most dramatic and impressive stories in the Bible is when David defeated Goliath, a giant. This story gives us a spiritual lesson.

1. Goliath, a Philistine warrior.

The Israelites were at war against the Philistines during the time of King Saul. The Israelites were terrified because of Goliath, a Philistine warrior (1Sa 17:4, 8-9, 11). We often come across a huge problem like Goliath that makes us scared. Fear frustrates us and prevents us from even daring to stand up to the problem. When our heart is seized by fear, it is as if we had already lost the battle without actually fighting it. Drive out fear, anxiety, and worry in the name of Jesus.혻혻

2. David, a man of faith.

David was sent on an errand to deliver some food to his brothers on the battlefield, and he heard Goliath shouting (1Sa 17:23). Every soldier in Israel was scared of what Goliath was saying, but David was not afraid of him (1Sa 17:26). Rather, he went to King Saul and said that he would fight Goliath who held the army of God in contempt (Pr 4:23; 1Sa 17:36-37). God works with a man of faith (Nu 14:8-9). I pray that you will fix your eyes on the Cross of Jesus, and march forward with strong faith.혻혻혻혻혻혻혻혻혻

3. The great victory of David.

David went out with a staff and a sling with five smooth stones (1Sa 17:40). He approached Goliath, relying only on his faith in God. Though Goliath was armed with sword, spear, and javelin, David came against Goliath in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel (1Sa 17:45). The battle belongs to the LORD, and He decides triumph and defeat (1Sa 17:47). David slung a stone and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into Goliath?셲 forehead, and he fell face down on the ground (1Sa 17:49). The Philistine army began to retreat, and Israel won a sweeping victory (1Sa 17:51). David?셲 victory was God?셲 victory.

With faith, pick up the stone of the Word, and throw it at your problems such as Goliath. When we march forward with faith like David did, God will work for us. The victory will be ours.
