Eternal Thanksgiving

Psalm 103:8-14, NIV
8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
혻 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;
10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.

Thanksgiving is what marks the maturity of a Christian. We were sinners but were saved to become a child of God, so our lives should be filled with thanksgiving. Who is God to whom we give thanks?

1. The Lord is compassionate (v.8).
We should give thanks to God who is compassionate toward us. The Lord is compassionate means that God shows mercy on us, because He knows our circumstances and situations. The compassionate God sympathizes with us, and most of all, He knows our weaknesses. Just as a father has compassion on his own children, God has compassion on us (Ps 103:13-14). It is a blessing to receive the grace of God who takes compassion on us.

2. The Lord is gracious.
We should give thanks to God who is gracious. Grace is a free gift from God. In every crisis in our lives, God?셲 helping hand is with us, so that we can overcome all difficulty and gain victory. God showers His overflowing grace on us in the presence of our enemies (Ps 23:5). Live your daily life while experiencing God?셲 grace. I pray that you will experience His grace so that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.

3. The Lord is slow to anger (vv.8,9).
We should give thanks to God who is slow to anger. We were created to serve God with joy, but since Adam and Eve committed sin and were depraved, we disobeyed God?셲 will, betrayed His love, and took a path that was evil in the sight of God. If the righteous God had judged us every time we sinned against Him, the history of humankind would have been severed numerous times. However, God is patient with us and loves us?봨ust as parents are with their children (Nu 20:10-12).

4. The Lord is abounding in love (vv.10-12).
We should give thanks to God who forgave our sins. With unlimited love, He forgives us (Ps 103:10-11), and does not remember our sins once we repent of them (Ps 103:12). Jesus Christ forgave a woman who committed adultery, and told her not to commit sin again (Jn 8:11). We must break our habits of committing sin, by remembering this word of encouragement. I pray that we will become sensitive to sin, repent of our sin with tears before the throne of God, experience the grace of forgiveness, and lead a victorious life with freedom and joy.

Our thanksgiving should be absolute and everlasting and should be given to God in all circumstances. I pray that you will give heartfelt thanks to God who saved us and allows us to live in His abundant grace.
