He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord
(Mt. 21:1-9)

Today is Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday is the first day of passion week where Jesus entered Jerusalem 2,000 years ago. In those days, many people welcomed His entrance to Jerusalem. They believed that Jesus was the Messiah who would save Israel from the oppression of the Roman Empire. However when Jesus was powerlessly arrested, their jubilation soon turned to shouts of, "crucify him." They lived selfishly for their own benefit, so when things didn't happen they way they had expected, they eventually betrayed the Lord. We should live a life, not for our own benefit, but serving others, imitating the Lord.

1. Jesus Christ, the humble servant
Jesus was a humble servant. He came not to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples on the night before he was crucified, and entered Jerusalem on a donkey. He hung on the cross silently in spite of the contempt and scorn of many people. Jesus humbled himself and opened the door of salvation for us. Likewise, we must imitate the humbleness of Jesus as we live a life of humility.

2. Jesus Christ, the savior Lord
Jesus become the Lord of salvation for all humanity by humbling Himself and being crucified. When Jesus entered Jerusalem, people shouted, "Hosanna." Hosanna means "save us." Jesus saved us from sin, death, troubles, sorrows, and despair. By depending on Jesus our Lord, we must live as kings over this world, prophets proclaiming the Word and priests coming to God by prayer.

3. Jesus Christ who deserves to be served forever
We must serve Jesus, the servant of humility and the Lord of salvation forever. We must serve the Lord with a pure and clean heart, like a donkey that has never been ridden before. In addition, we should serve the Lord with a heart of absolute obedience like the donkey's master who was willing to give the donkey he loved when the Lord requested it. With this attitude, we must live a precious life seeking the will of the Lord, not our own benefit.

Imitating Jesus, we should live a life of humility, serving, and obedience. Then God will pour blessing abundantly on us that we may enjoy good health and that all may go well with us, even as our soul is getting along well.
