癤풲he Seed that Fell on Four Types of Soil
(Matt. 13:1-9)

Jesus spoke of the seed that fell on four different types of soil. In this passage, the soil signifies our hearts, and the seed is the Word of God. Then, let us look at what each type of soil means.

1. The seed that fell along the path
Those who are like the seed that fell along the path are so hardened that they do not understand the Word and the Word that they have received is stolen by Satan. They are not convinced of salvation and simply come to church as a ritual. These people must plow their hearts by repenting. Then, when the seed of the Word falls in their hearts, it will sprout, have stalks and leaves, and finally bear much fruit. 혻

2. The seed that fell on rocky places
Those who are like the seed that fell on rocky places receive the Word with joy, but they soon become depressed and discouraged when trials come to them because they don't have firm faith. Their hearts are filled with wounds both big and small. They are also stubborn and filled with pride. Unless they remove these stones, the Word will not take root in them. Consequently, they will not be able to live a life of grace. With the bulldozer of the Word and the Holy Spirit, they must remove all these stones out of their hearts. 혻

3. The seed that fell among thorns
Those who are like the seed sown among thorns listen to the Word but do not produce fruit but instead stumble because of the cares and temptations of the world. When they are tempted by greed, anxiety overtakes their hearts. There are many people who are tempted because of greed, which ultimately destroys them and puts them to shame. Furthermore, when complaints and dissatisfaction fill their hearts, it prevents them from giving thanks or from bearing fruit. These thorns must be burned by the fire of the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes, all our worries and anxieties will pass away.

4. The seed that fell on good soil
When those who are like the seed that fell on good soil hear the Word, they understand it and bear fruit. Sometimes a crop of thirty, sixty, or a hundred times what was sown. When we sow just one seed in soil which is soft and has had the stones and thorns removed, we can harvest lots of crops. Those whose hearts are like good soil are those who give thanks. God causes those who plant the seed of thanksgiving to bear fruit so that they can offer even greater thanks. We should plow our hearts, give thanks to God who takes care of us, and glorify Him. (Ps 50:23)

I혻 pray that you will become like good soil, by repenting thoroughly and being filled with the Word of the Holy Spirit; bearing abundant fruit of righteousness, obedience, light, and love through the Holy Spirit. 혻 혻
