A Person Who Trusts in the Lord
(Jer. 17:5-8)

One’s path of life depends on in whom one trusts. There are only two paths in the world: the path of the righteous and the path of the wicked. The former includes faith in Jesus, salvation, and trust in God, whereas the latter is about relying on one’s own competence and other people. One enjoys life and blessings when one believes and trusts in God. On the other hand, reliance on people leads to death and curse. We, as children of our Lord, should always believe and trust in God.

1. A person who believes and trusts in a human being
God says about the path of the wicked: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD.”(Jer. 17:5b) The path of the wicked refers to a way of life that is estranged from God by trusting in and relying on human competence. In other words, it is a life without God, a life owned by the mortals. The sin of Adam and Eve lies in their desire to become the owners of their own lives, to be like God, and to live without God, when they were created by God to serve Him. What would be the destination of such a wicked path? It is the judgment and curse of God coming down to such a life.

2. A person who believes and trusts in God
God also says about the path of the righteous: “But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him.”(Jer. 17:7) The path of the righteous refers to a way of life that trusts in God and considers Him to be the master of one’s life. One neither fails nor is defeated when letting God be the master of one’s life. It is because God becomes the strength for all who trusts in Him and gives victory and blessing to them. Trust in God and experience His goodness everyday.

3. The blessings given to a person of God
God promised wonderful blessings to those who walk on the path of the righteous: “He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”(Jer. 17:8) A tree planted by the water does not fear when heat comes. It has no worries in a year of drought. Just like that, one does not shake by any wind of difficulties as long as one trusts in God. Just like the tree planted by the water has always green leaves and never fails to bear fruit, a person who trusts in God has always abundant fruit in her life.

Only trust in God throughout your life. Then you will enjoy His blessings for your soul, body, and all aspects of your life. And you will be like a tree planted by the water that has always green leaves and never fails to bear fruit.
