Rejoice in the Lord
(Ne. 8:5-6, 10)

Various accidents, cases, epidemics and disasters take away peace, making us fearful. It is not because of severity of problems but because of disbelief and distrust. We, as children of God should not lose peace and be pleased with the Lord.

1. God who gives the word

After having finished long years of captives, the people of South Judea gathered to listen to the message of God in one place. (Rom. 8:2-3) It was the first feast of trumpets after they had finished three-time of being returned home and completing construction of Jerusalem. It was the first day of New Year. Usually only men were allowed to be there, but on this day were people gathered regardless of age and gender. They were eager to listen to the message of God. When Ezra stood on the stage to deliver the message, people were standing. (Ne. 8:5) They were humble and eager to listen to the message of God due to the long life of being slaves. As a result, they had broken heart and became humble.

2. People who obey the word of God

When Ezra praised the Lord, proclaiming the word of God, all people say A-men and they gave glory to God. They bowed and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground (Neh. 8:6) They were eager to receive the word of God but they believed that the word will have been achieved. So we should say amen with faith. There are no lies in God's word (Prov. 30:5) and it will be surely achieved. (Isa. 55:10-11) We should obey the word of God by reading the bible days and nights. We will experience the miracle and blessing of God.

3. Joy given by the word

When they heard the message of God, they burst tears. (Neh. 8:9) When they realized disbelief and distrust which gave harsh lives as slaves, they repented their sins with tears rolling on their faces. Wounded hearts caused by hardships during the reconstruction of the sanctuary were healed by the word of God. We need restoration of giving thanks toward God. Also, Nehemiah said that Joy of Lord is our strength. (Neh.8:10) What trials may happen, we will be peaceful and powerful if we regard God the source of power.
