Children and Parents
(Eph. 6:1-4)
Family is the most beautiful gift God gave. We should be faithful in the place we belong to in order to take care of happy home. Today’s scripture reading teaches about the roles between children and parents at home.
1. Honor your father and mother
Children should honor parents in God because God allowed us to have our parents. When we obey our parents who gave birth to us, we also learn how to obey God naturally. Honoring parents is the most important commandment related to human relationships and it is the first commandment that we should keep. So we should honor and respect our parents. God will allow us to have blessing and longevity. (Eph. 6:3) We see that filial duty piety is being collapsed in the society. At this time, we should practice honoring and respecting our parents as what God has ordered.
2. Love your children
Parents should not exasperate children. Children are God’s children rather than our own children. Parents are servants to take care of their children instead of God. Therefore, we should not hurt our children by using parental authority wrongly. Respect your children and regard your children as the precious gift from God. Also, parents should teach their children with the Word of God. Be diligent to teach your children to live with the basis of the Word of God. Show them that you try to live with the word of God and pray hard. Parents’ prayers and teaching with the word of God will make their children great.
3. Make a harmonious home
Harmonious parents bring up their children greatly. It’s hard for children under arguing parents to have healthy personality. The couple should respect with each other. The bible asks a wife to love and respect her husband just like church loves and respects Jesus. Meanwhile, a husband should love his wife with sacrificing just like Jesus was sacrificed on the cross for church. (Eph. 5:24-25) Achieve the harmony of love in your family. Instead of blaming each other, practice the love of God at first. Therefore, your family will stand firmly in the Word of God and filled with joy, being successful and having longevity in the world.
