Jesus Who Came to Us
(Isaiah 9:6)
Today begins the season of Advent, a holy four-week period of preparation and anticipation as we await the celebration of Jesus Christ’s birth and His glorious return. Also known as the Season of Advent or the Season of Expectation, this time calls us to engage in prayer, gratitude, and worship, directing our hearts toward the coming of our Savior. Today's message reveals to us the true nature of Jesus, who came to this world to redeem all humanity from sin.

1. Jesus who came for us
Jesus Christ was born as a man to save us from a life of sin and despair (Isaiah 9:6a). Although He was completely without sin or fault, He willingly gave Himself as the sacrificial Lamb to atone for our sins, dying on the cross (John 1:29). Through His perfect and eternal sacrifice, the need for repeated animal offerings as temporary atonement was forever abolished. Now, all who believe in Jesus and trust in His shed blood for redemption is forgiven of their sins, becomes a child of God, and can approach the throne of God with confidence (Hebrews 10:19).

2. Jesus Our sovereign ruler
Today's passage declares that Jesus holds the authority to govern the world upon His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6b). Our Lord is not only our Savior but also the sovereign Ruler over all creation (Matthew 28:18). Genuine faith is revealed when we fully acknowledge Jesus as our Lord and King. Those who submit to Jesus as the Sovereign of their lives and recognize His dominion over all things are freed from the burdens of worldly worries and anxieties. Strengthened by His strength, they live victorious lives, overcoming every trial and challenge with confidence (Philippians 4:13).

3. Jesus our wonderful counselor.
The Scripture speaks of Jesus, saying, "His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor" (Isaiah 9:6c), which the New Revised Version translates as "His name is Wonderful Counselor.” Jesus serves as our greatest Counselor and advisor, walking with us through the lonely and challenging paths of life. When we come before Him, laying down our burdens and seeking His help, He graciously resolves our struggles and leads us along the paths of grace and blessing (Matthew 11:28). Let us pray that we may all wholeheartedly receive, trust, and obey Jesus, who came into the world for our salvation, dedicating our lives for the glory of God.
