Jesus Who Came to Us (III)
(Isaiah 11:1-2)
The advent of Jesus Christ is the greatest miracle and the most joyous proclamation in human history. He came into the world to deliver us from the despair and captivity of sin, which we were unable to overcome on our own, and to renew all things. Today’s passage from the book of Isaiah proclaims the promise of Jesus’ arrival as a descendant of David and foretells the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Messiah.
1. Jesus who is filled with wisdom and understanding
As the prophet Isaiah foretold, the life of our Lord Jesus was defined by the constant presence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35), and at His baptism, the Spirit descended upon Him (Matthew 3:16). Through the guidance of the Spirit, He overcame the trials in the wilderness (Luke 4:1). Every work He accomplished during His earthly ministry was empowered by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit upon our Lord Jesus is the "Spirit of the Lord" and the "Spirit of wisdom and understanding" (Isaiah 11:2). Through the unwavering presence of the Holy Spirit, Jesus exhibited perfect judgment and insight, enabling Him to fulfill God’s will perfectly in all things.
2. Jesus who came with the Spirit of counsel and of power
The Holy Spirit, who rested upon our Lord Jesus and revealed the glory of God, is described as the "Spirit of counsel and power" (Isaiah 11:2). Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Jesus devised wise and pleasing plans for the Father and carried them out faithfully. Every miracle He performed ?setting captives free, restoring sight to the blind, and delivering the oppressed?was accomplished through the power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:18-19). Even today, when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, we are empowered by His might to cast out demons, proclaim Jesus as Savior, and fully accomplish every good work
3. Jesus who came with the Spirit of knowledge and of fear of the LORD
Our Lord Jesus, who was filled with the Holy Spirit, took delight in nothing other than "the fear of the Lord" (Isaiah 11:3). The Holy Spirit leads us into "the knowledge of God" and teaches us to live a life of fear before Him. The same Spirit who rested upon Jesus, enabling Him to live a life of perfect obedience to God's sovereign will and fear for the Father throughout His earthly ministry, now dwells within us. It is my earnest prayer that we may be continually filled with the Holy Spirit, finding lasting joy in fearing the Lord. May we live each day with gratitude and obedience, faithfully answering God's call in every aspect of our lives.
