Jesus, Who Came to Us (Ⅳ)
(Isaiah 11:3-6, 9)
As Christmas approaches, we are reminded of the turmoil in our world?the war between Ukraine and Russia, the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and the political unrest in South Korea amid impeachment proceedings. In such chaotic times, where can we find true justice and lasting peace? Today’s passage from the book of Isaiah speaks of the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, through whom righteousness and peace will be firmly established on earth.

1. Jesus who judges with righteousness
Jesus, who came to this earth to save us, delighted above all in fearing God (Isaiah 11:3). This deep fear of the Lord was revealed through His unwavering obedience to the Father’s will. Grounded in this fear and obedience, He judged not by outward appearances but by true righteousness (Isaiah 11:4). At that time, the Jewish people anticipated a Messiah who would act as a military hero, freeing them from the oppression of the Roman Empire. However, our Lord Jesus came as the righteous Judge, the Messiah who would restore the righteousness of God's people. Clothed in righteousness and faithfulness, He covers us?stained by sin, darkness, and injustice?with His precious blood and leads us on the path of righteousness. As recipients of His salvation, may we live lives worthy of His grace, practicing justice daily and eagerly awaiting the glorious return of our righteous Savior.

2. Jesus who brings true peace
Where Jesus reigns with righteousness, the Kingdom of God is established, and its essence can be described in one word: peace (shalom). In contrast, this world is filled with chaos and rebellion, conflict and deceit, violence(murder) and war?all of which are the tragic consequences of sin's curse. Yet, in the midst of this sin and injustice, our Lord Jesus came as the true Prince of Peace. The Kingdom of God that comes with Jesus is a Kingdom of forgiveness, love, and unity, where the earth is filled with the knowledge of God (Isaiah 11:9). During this Christmas season, as we celebrate the coming of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we are called to reflect that peace in our lives by loving others, pursuing reconciliation, and extending forgiveness. In doing so, we offer the world a glimpse of God’s Kingdom?a Kingdom that will be fully and perfectly established when our Lord returns in glory.
