Arise and come with Me
(Song of songs 2:10-12,15)
We must continue to move forward, fixing our eyes on Jesus Christ, the originator of our faith every day. The Song of Songs illustrates this journey of faith through the love between a man and a woman, symbolizing the relationship between God and the people of Israel, as well as the relationship between Christ and the Church.
1. The Church and believers, my darling and beautiful one
King Solomon, beloved and honored by all, specially loved and cherished the Shulammite woman among many others, even though she was darkened by the sun (Song of Songs 1:6). This metaphorically illustrates how Jesus loves the Church, and how He loves us in our weakness and insufficiency. God regards us as precious and honorable, loving us to the end, and has summoned us by name (Isaiah 43:1). Even now, He calls us, saying, 'Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me' (Song of Songs 2:10), raising us up from places of despair. In response to that love, we are called to live a life of faith, walking closely with the Lord.
2. The spring of hope that draws near to us
The Shulammite woman confesses that the pain of not being able to see King Solomon was so great that she fainted (Song of Songs 2:5). In our own lives, we may experience seasons of suffering that feel like a harsh winter, where it seems as if God is not with us. However, God never leaves us. He remains by our side with His unchanging love. Trials are a time of grace that refine us and bring us to gain deeper awareness of our sin. As we move forward with absolute positivity and gratitude, the winter of despair will pass, and the spring of hope will arise in our lives (Song of Songs 2:11-12).
3. Catch the elements of unbelief that are like little foxes
The true threat to the vineyards is not a large predator like a bear or a lion, but the little foxes that sneak in, gnaw at the roots of the vines, and then disappear (Song of Songs 2:15). Likewise, in our spiritual lives, little foxes come to steal away our grace and joy. While we can easily recognize and avoid major sins, we often overlook the seemingly insignificant ones. Yet even the smallest sin can create a separation between us and God, distancing us from Him. Therefore, we must continually examine ourselves through the Word and prayer, repenting even of the smallest sins and removing elements of disbelief. May we restore our passionate love for God and become those who spread positive influence to the world.
