Then I was the Craftsman at His Side
(Proverbs 8:30-31)
Love gives profound meaning to our lives, fills us with a sense of fulfillment, and empowers us to move forward. This true love, which serves as the very foundation of life, comes from God. God is love, and we are made in His likeness. Therefore, we are called to love Him and to reflect His love in our lives by serving our neighbors and the world.
1. As I was at His side
Faith begins with dwelling in the presence of God and walking with the Lord of love. When we walk with God, we are empowered to live as a new creation, approved by Him. However, when we distance ourselves from Him, we return to our old selves, enslaved by sin and lost in spiritual wandering. Therefore, we must fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). As we look to Christ and live according to the image that God has restored in us, we are empowered to lead a creative life that brings glory to God (Isaiah 43:7).
2. Living as a craftsman
Proverbs 8:30 speaks of us as being “the craftsman at His side.” The word “craftsman” is derived from the Hebrew amon, signifying a highly skilled artisan or master builder. This reveals that we have been entrusted with the divine mission of participating in God’s creative work. Therefore, we are called to be children of God who bring hope to those in despair, comfort to those in sorrow, and light into a world overwhelmed by darkness. In every place to which we are called, may we stand as skilled craftsmen who bring glory to God, rise above the past, and participate in His new work of creation.
3. Rejoicing in His presence
Whatever we do and wherever we are, we must live to please God and reflect His glory (1 Corinthians 10:31). Just as the Father declared at the baptism of Jesus, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17), we too are called to live as those who bring delight to God. Such a life is characterized by love, forgiveness, and a spirit of absolute positivity and gratitude, as we serve our neighbors in a manner that is distinct from the world. When we live in this way, with all our heart, soul, and strength devoted to what pleases God, He will help us, protect us (Psalm 91:14). May we be those who do all things for the glory of God and live lives that bring joy to Him.
