Taste and See That the Lord Is Good
(Psalm 34:6-10)
We live our entire lives by the grace of God. From the moment we were born to the moment we placed our faith in Jesus Christ and received salvation, every step has been sustained by His boundless grace. When David faced the threat of death, he cried out to the Lord, and God delivered him and poured out His grace upon him. In the same way, when we encounter life’s crises, we must not fall into despair but place our trust in the Lord. Without His grace, we could not survive even a single day or a single hour.
1. The calling of the poor man
When David was faced with the threat of death, he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord heard his cry and delivered him from all his troubles (Psalm 34:6). Even in the midst of Saul’s relentless pursuit and the peril he faced in Gath of the Philistines, David found salvation through prayer in the face of a terrifying crisis. God still hears our cries today. No matter what suffering or fear we may encounter, if we earnestly seek Him in faith, He will surely answer (2 Chronicles 15:2; Matthew 7:7). In times of crisis, especially those beyond the reach of human strength, our foremost response must be prayer, thanksgiving, and praise. Therefore, let us not yield to discouragement, but endure with steadfast hearts, crying out to the Lord in unwavering faith.

2. Experiencing the blessings of the Lord
Even in the midst of adversity, David placed his trust in God alone and experienced the grace of the living Lord. His courageous faith was not theoretical, but deeply rooted in personal experience that was formed in the fields as he tended sheep and witnessed the Lord’s deliverance from the threats of lions and bears. Such was the foundation of David’s experiential faith. Christianity, likewise, is a faith rooted in personal encounter. We are not simply called to know and believe in God, but to taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). As we read, meditate on, and memorize the Word, and draw near to the place of prayer, we come to experience God’s grace in a real and living way. Those who have truly encountered the Lord’s grace are empowered to fulfill the calling entrusted to them and to live boldly as witnesses of His goodness in the world.

3. Living in the fear of the Lord
David declares that those who fear the Lord shall lack nothing (Psalm 34:9). Honoring the Lord means living a life of love for God and walking reverently in a posture of Coram Deo, living before the face of God, with awe of His holiness and majesty. Even in the face of poverty as a fugitive, David confessed that those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing (Psalm 34:10), for he believed with unwavering faith that God supplies every need with what is best (Psalm 84:11). May you continually witness the goodness of the Lord, who provides abundantly for those who fear Him, even in times of hardship, and may your life be richly blessed as you dwell deeply in His grace each day.
