A Life of Victory Through the Word
(2Timothy 3:14-17)
As children of God, Christians are called to grow daily in spiritual maturity. Many of the struggles we face in our walk of faith arise from a lack of such maturity. Therefore, through the Word and prayer, we must be filled with the Holy Spirit, that we may grow in spirit each day and live in victory over both sin and the world.
1. Discern the will of God
Human beings are creatures of thought, and are often weighed down by the multitude of thoughts that press upon them each day. For this reason, we must lay aside unnecessary thoughts and instead fill our hearts with God’s thoughts through His Word and prayer (Romans 12:2). The Christian who is filled with the Spirit does not surrender to the voices of the world but discerns and listens to the voice of the Lord. The voice of Jesus is the voice of grace, for He loves us, heals us, and forgives us. As the Good Shepherd, the Lord knows us well and always leads us in the right path (John 10:14). Therefore, through the Word we must discern the will of the Lord and walk in obedience to it. May we live each moment attentive to His voice and faithful to His Word.

2. Become a spiritual giant
We must not remain in a childlike faith immature faith but grow each day into spiritual maturity. The writer of Hebrews exhorts believers to leave behind such infancy and press on to a mature faith (Hebrews 6:1?2). Many of the Jews of that time repeatedly fell back into their former ways of life, repented, and returned again, revealing a lack of spiritual maturity. The “dead works” mentioned here refer to the life of the old self, such as indulgence, idolatry, immorality, and various forms of bondage. Believers must decisively cast off these things and stand firm in an unshakable faith toward God. True spiritual growth is possible only through the Word of God, and as we are trained daily by the Word, we may at last become mature and mighty in spirit.

3. Spiritual growth and training of the Word
We must grow each day through the Word of God. All Scripture is God-breathed and is given to teach, to rebuke, to correct, and to train us in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16). Through this Word we are shaped and refined, becoming spiritually mature and conformed to the image of Christ. Our Lord calls us to learn from His gentleness and humility, and the Apostle Paul urges us to embrace the mind of Christ (Matthew 11:29, Philippians 2:5). As we mature in the Word, we become instruments sanctified and ready for noble use, prepared for every good work that pleases Him (2 Timothy 2:21). The world still waits for the witness and service of God’s people. Therefore, as children of God, let us grow daily in the Word and in the Spirit, devoting ourselves to every good work for the glory of God.
