A Life of Absolute Gratitude
(Psalm 23:1-3)
Today is Thanksgiving. It is a day to remember the grace God has poured upon us throughout the year and to offer Him overflowing gratitude and glory. In 1620, the Pilgrims, who sailed to the New World in search of religious freedom, gathered their first harvest in an unfamiliar land and offered their joy to God in thanksgiving. Today, we continue that same tradition of faith, reflecting on the Lord’s grace that has guided us this year and worshiping with hearts full of gratitude.
1. God, Our Shepherd
The life of a sheep depends entirely on its shepherd. Under a good shepherd, it lives in abundance and peace; under a bad one, it wanders in pain and deprivation. Our lives are much the same. The devil, like a false shepherd, seeks to deceive and lead us toward destruction, but Jesus, the Good Shepherd, laid down His life for us (John 10:10?11). Through His sacrificial love, we are saved and become children of God. He is the truly good Shepherd who chooses us, calls us by name, and watches over us all our days. In His love declares, “You are mine” (Isaiah 43:1), we find true peace, even in our weakness and insignificance.
2. God, Our Guide
God leads us along the path of grace He has prepared. Just as David placed his trust wholly in God, we too must depend on Him alone, following His guidance through this wilderness-like world. When we do so, our Shepherd strengthens our faith and leads us to victory. The Lord, who gently tends the weak, surrounds us with His love and leads us each day in paths of righteousness (Isaiah 40:11). May we daily give thanks for His grace and His watchful care over every moment and His power to renew our souls.
3. God, Our Provider
God, our Shepherd, provides for all our needs. He leads us to green pastures and still waters so that we may live in contentment and peace (Psalm 23:1?2). He refreshes us with living water through the Holy Spirit, quenching the thirst of our souls and filling us with His presence. “Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing” (Psalm 34:9?10). As our good Shepherd, He prepares a table before us even in the presence of our enemies and anoints our cups to overflow. May we live each day in thankful remembrance of the abundant grace God so freely gives.
