Be Strong and Courageous
(Joshua 1:6?9)
God has granted us the blessed Canaan of 2026. Just as He promised to give His people every place where they set their foot before the conquest of Canaan, so too will our faith expand as we step into the new year in trust and obedience. I pray that we will hold firmly to the command to be strong and courageous, entering the year ahead not with fear, but with faith marked by absolute positivity and deep gratitude.
1. Be Strong and Courageous
Before the conquest of Canaan, God commanded Joshua three times to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1:6, 7, 9). This repetition reveals how many fears and enemies awaited Israel on the journey ahead. In the past, the Israelites had already shrunk back in fear at the sight of the giants, the descendants of Anak, before any battle had even begun (Numbers 13:33). This teaches us that the condition of our hearts when facing a challenge is often more decisive than the size of the challenge itself. When our hearts are shaken, our faith falters as well. That is why God first commands strength and courage. When we guard our hearts with faith, gratitude, and confidence in God, rather than listening to fear and negativity, His promises are made manifest in our lives (Mark 9:23).
2. Do Not Turn to the Right or to the Left
God instructed Joshua not only to be strong and courageous, but also to walk faithfully according to His Word, without turning to the right or to the left (Joshua 1:7). This makes it clear that true prosperity does not come from human ability or clever strategy, but from obedience to God’s Word. Our society today is often shaken by division and conflict, yet God calls us instead to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him (Micah 6:8). This is the way of unity in the Holy Spirit. It is a life of patience, mutual care, and shared purpose (Ephesians 4:1?3). When we choose to walk straight according to God’s Word, He faithfully directs our steps and leads us with blessing.
3. You Will Prosper
True prosperity begins with keeping and practicing God’s Word. From the beginning, God created humanity to be blessed, to flourish, and to steward His creation (Genesis 1:28). When the Word moves away from the center of our lives, disobedience takes root, and pain and confusion follow. A truly prosperous life is found in returning to God’s Word and making it the foundation of everything we do. When Scripture becomes our daily standard and we walk in obedience, God smooths our paths and leads us along the way of blessing. May we all, regardless of our circumstances, walk steadfastly in the truth of God’s Word, strong and courageous, unmoved to the right or to the left, and enjoy the true prosperity God has prepared for us, living lives that also bless and give to others.
