Give Me This Mountain
(Joshua 14:10?14)

God always works through people of faith, hope, and vision. When we move forward not with resentment or complaint, but with absolute faith and sincere gratitude, God’s work is revealed in our lives. Like Caleb, may we embrace the dreams God has given us, overcome every hardship, and live a year filled with His blessing.

1. One Whom God Saved
Caleb lived faithfully before God for forty-five years, from the moment he spied out the land of Canaan at Kadesh Barnea until the day he finally received his inheritance. When the ten other spies returned with fear and disbelief, Caleb and Joshua boldly confessed that the land could be possessed if God was with them (Numbers 13:32?33; 14:7?8). God was pleased with their faith and allowed Caleb to survive through the forty-five years of wandering in the wilderness. Finally, at the age of eighty-five, Caleb advanced toward the hill country of Hebron, where powerful enemies remained, and declared with confidence, “Give me this mountain” (Joshua 14:12). Caleb was a man who held fast to God’s promise throughout his life and never let go of the dream God had placed in his heart.

2. One Who Clung to the Word with Faith
Caleb was a man who firmly held on to God’s Word. As a representative of the tribe of Judah among the twelve spies, he stood with Joshua and delivered a report filled with faith. Through Moses, God promised that Caleb would inherit the land he had walked upon (Joshua 14:9; Deuteronomy 1:36). Forty-five years later, at the age of eighty-five, Caleb had not forgotten that promise. He testified that God had preserved his life in order to fulfill His Word (Joshua 14:6, 10). In the end, Caleb received Hebron exactly as God had promised. God’s promises are always fulfilled in His perfect time (Isaiah 55:11). No matter our circumstances, when we hold firmly to the Word and move forward in faith, God faithfully guides our path.

3. Those Who Walk with God
God works powerfully through people of faith and vision, accomplishing extraordinary things through them. At eighty-five years old, Caleb looked upon the fortified hills of Hebron, still occupied by the descendants of Anak, and proclaimed, “If the Lord is with me, I will drive them out” (Joshua 14:12). Caleb’s focus was not on the size of the mountain before him, but on the God who was with him. Because he trusted in God’s presence and clung to His promise, Caleb ultimately received the land God had promised as his inheritance (Joshua 14:13?14). May we, like Caleb, become people of faith who trust in God’s presence even when great mountains stand before us, and may we move forward in victory through Him.
