God’s Guidance
(Genesis 46:1?4)

Throughout life, we make countless choices. Some are small and routine, while others shape the direction of our lives, such as decisions about our future, relationships, and work. Because even one decision can influence our entire life, we must seek to make choices that please God. When we fully trust Him and entrust our lives to Him, God faithfully guides us along the best path and fulfills His purposes for us.

1. Seek God’s Will
Jacob set out for Egypt with his entire household, livestock, and possessions, and stopped at Beersheba (Genesis 46:1). Beersheba was a sacred place of covenant, where Abraham built an altar and where Isaac encountered God (Genesis 21:33; 26:23 to 25). Standing at the border of the Promised Land, Jacob faced hesitation and fear. Leaving Canaan was not an easy decision. Egypt was the land where Abraham had once experienced hardship, and it was also the land God had told Isaac not to go. Because of this uncertainty, Jacob built an altar and sought God’s will before moving forward. In the same way, we need faith and discernment to seek God’s will before making important decisions in our own lives.

2. Rely on God’s Word
In the night, God appeared to Jacob and called his name, revealing Himself as the God of Abraham and Isaac, the faithful God of the covenant. He told Jacob not to be afraid of going down to Egypt and promised to make him into a great nation there (Genesis 46:2 to 3). God still speaks to us today in the dark nights of life, in seasons of despair, and in moments of uncertainty. Through the Holy Spirit, His Word is brought to our remembrance and understanding (John 14:26). Therefore, we are called to meditate on God’s Word day and night and to live by it. When we listen for His voice in difficult times, trust His promises, and move forward in faith, we experience His comfort and strength (Isaiah 41:10).

3. Walk with God
God promised Jacob not only that he would become a great nation in Egypt, but also that He would be with him throughout the entire journey (Genesis 46:3 to 4). He assured Jacob that He would bring him back again and that his life would end in peace, with Joseph at his side. These promises show that God would take full responsibility for Jacob’s life from beginning to end. Those who obey God’s Word walk under His blessing, while disobedience leads to loss and hardship. Therefore, we are called to obey His Word, faithfully carry out the responsibilities entrusted to us, and walk daily with Him. May we do so with trust and confidence, receiving and enjoying the blessings God has prepared for our lives.
