Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
(Ephesians 5:15?18)
The secret to remaining steadfast and victorious in a troubled world is to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The disciples followed Jesus and witnessed many miracles, yet before receiving the Holy Spirit they were overcome with fear. After the Holy Spirit came upon them at Pentecost, they boldly proclaimed the gospel and became witnesses who changed the world. In the same way, we must seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit through the Word and prayer and live courageously in the Spirit.
1. Become Wise
To be filled with the Holy Spirit, we must first pursue God’s wisdom. True wisdom is not found in worldly knowledge but in understanding and discerning God’s will (Ephesians 5:15, 17). We must not be guided by the voices of the world but live in obedience to God’s Word. Scripture was given through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and the fullness of the Word leads us into the fullness of the Spirit (2 Peter 1:20 to 21). When we hold firmly to the Word and devote ourselves to prayer, the Holy Spirit renews our hearts and helps us understand God’s will more clearly. As we remain in the Word and walk with the Holy Spirit each day, we gain discernment and live in a way that pleases the Lord.
2. Redeem the Time
The Apostle Paul urges us to make the most of our time because the days are evil. To redeem the time means not wasting the opportunities God has given but using them wisely for His purposes (Ephesians 5:16). Life passes quickly, and we are called to use the gifts and abilities entrusted to us to reveal God’s glory wherever we are. The enemy seeks to discourage and defeat us, yet the Lord has already overcome the world (John 16:33). May we stand firm against the enemy through the power of God’s Word and the victory of Christ, living each day filled with the Spirit and walking in victory (Revelation 12:11).
3. Be Filled with the Holy Spirit
The key to a victorious life of faith is continual filling by the Holy Spirit. Scripture teaches us not to be controlled by wine but to be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). This calls us to live with spiritual alertness, not being controlled by worldly desires, but surrendering to God’s will without compromise. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit and live set apart from the patterns of the world, our lives become instruments through which God works. The Holy Spirit gives us power so that we naturally live as witnesses for Christ (Acts 1:8). The early church experienced daily renewal as they devoted themselves to repentance, the teaching of the Word, fellowship, and worship (Acts 2:44 to 45; Acts 4:32). May we seek the fullness of the Holy Spirit each day through the Word and prayer and live boldly as proclaimers of the gospel.
