Do Not be Anxious About Anything
(Philippians 4:4?7)
Peace of mind is one of the greatest strengths that sustains life. Professor Kim Hyung seok, who reached the age of one hundred six, identified peace of mind as the key to his long life and testified that this peace comes from Jesus. In the same way, victorious faith is expressed through a heart at peace, and that peace is closely connected to joy.
1. Faith Full of Joy
A life of joy begins with the Word. The Apostle Paul repeatedly urges us to rejoice in the Lord always, showing that joy is an essential fruit of faith. Proverbs teaches that a joyful heart brings vitality, while anxiety weighs down the spirit (Proverbs 15:13; 17:22). The Psalms also affirm that God’s Word becomes a source of joy that sustains us even in times of suffering (Psalm 119:92, 162). Therefore, our joy must not depend on circumstances but on the Word of God. When we rejoice in the Lord, our focus shifts from our problems to God, and worry is transformed into prayer. As we delight in Him, God renews our hearts and leads our lives in a good and faithful way (Psalm 37:4).
2. Faith Filled with Prayer
A life of prayer begins with releasing our worries and bringing them before God. Although many things cause anxiety in this world, Scripture calls us to come before the Lord with prayer and supplication rather than being consumed by worry (Philippians 4:6). Jonah cried out to God even from a desperate situation and received an answer (Jonah 2:1 to 2). Prayer is more than making requests. It is a deep and personal relationship with God, and supplication is a sincere and earnest cry from the heart (Psalm 130:1 to 2; Jeremiah 33:3). We are called to entrust all our concerns to the Lord and rely on His care. Prayer becomes even richer when it is joined with thanksgiving. Gratitude expresses faith and opens the way for God’s grace to work in our lives (Psalm 50:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:18). Therefore, in every situation, we must approach God with both prayer and thanksgiving.
3. Faith Overflowing with Peace
A life filled with peace is the result of God’s grace working through prayer and thanksgiving. As we pray, we begin to experience a deep peace that settles in our hearts. We should continue to seek the Lord in prayer until that peace takes hold within us. The peace God gives is not temporary or dependent on circumstances. It is the power that guards our hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7). This is a peace the world cannot give and cannot take away. Therefore, we must allow the peace of Christ to rule in our hearts through the work of the Holy Spirit (Colossians 3:15). Even in a world filled with fear and anxiety, those who hold onto the peace of the Lord can live with steady confidence each day. Remembering that the message of the resurrection begins with peace, may we become people who live lives filled with the peace of Jesus.
