Do You Look for the Living Among the Dead?
(Luke 24:1?6)
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest miracle in human history. Three days after His death, Jesus broke the power of sin and death and rose again. Through His resurrection, He became the eternal hope for a world in despair and opened the way to salvation and everlasting life. Whoever believes in the cross and resurrection of Jesus will not perish but will receive the blessing of eternal life.
1. A Life of Anxiety
At dawn on the first day of the week, the women who had followed Jesus went to the tomb with spices. When they arrived, they found that the stone had been rolled away and the body of Jesus was no longer there. Although Jesus had spoken about His resurrection many times, they did not remember His words and became filled with anxiety and confusion. At that moment, an angel appeared and said, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?” (Luke 24:5). In the same way, we often say we believe in Jesus, yet we fall into fear and despair because we focus only on the problems in front of us. However, the risen Lord is alive and continues to work even today. He is the One who is able to resolve every situation we face. May we become people who rise in faith and fix our eyes on the living Lord.
2. A Life of Remembering the Word
Jesus had already foretold that He would suffer and rise again on the third day. Yet in the midst of fear and sorrow, the women forgot His promise. The angel reminded them of what Jesus had said, and they began to remember His words (Luke 24:6 to 8). We also easily forget God’s promises when we are overwhelmed by life’s challenges. However, the one who is blessed is the one who meditates on God’s Word day and night and holds firmly to it (Psalm 1:1 to 2). The risen Jesus is with us even now, and He remains the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Therefore, we must live lives that continually remember and hold onto the Word of the Lord in every situation.
3. A Life of Proclaiming the Word
After remembering Jesus’ words, the women returned from the tomb and shared the news of the resurrection with the apostles and others. In the same way, we have been entrusted with the mission of proclaiming the good news of the resurrection to the world. We must remember that we are called to be witnesses of the gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). Even then, many people did not believe the message (Luke 24:11). Thomas, one of the disciples, said he would not believe unless he saw the wounds of the risen Lord with his own eyes (John 20:25). Yet Jesus said to him, “Stop doubting and believe” (John 20:27). May we stand firm in our faith in the risen Lord and boldly proclaim the message of His resurrection to the world.
