A EWSSChurch That Pleases God
(Acts 2:42?47)
Yoido Full Gospel Church, which began with five believers on May 18, 1958, has now reached its 68th anniversary. Every step of its growth and revival has been by the grace of God. Just as the early Jerusalem church experienced daily revival through the filling of the Holy Spirit, devotion to the Word, prayer, and loving service, we pray that our church will also continue to experience even greater revival as we serve the Lord with one heart in the work of the Holy Spirit.
1. Faith Centered on the Word
The first secret behind the growth of the early Jerusalem church was a faith firmly centered on the Word of God. As the apostles taught and proclaimed the Word, grace and power were revealed, and the lives of believers were transformed (Acts 2:42). The Word remains the highest authority and the foundation of our lives. Therefore, we must meditate on God’s Word day and night and remain rooted in its grace. When we receive the Word with faith and obedience, our faith grows and God’s grace and blessings follow. On the other hand, even if someone has attended church for many years, faith will remain weak and unstable if it is not deeply rooted in the Word of God. Therefore, like a tree planted by streams of water, we must continually be filled with the living water of the Word.
2. Faith Filled with Prayer
Another secret to the revival of the early church was a life filled with prayer (Acts 2:42). Prayer is the breath of the spirit, the channel through which God’s power flows, and the key to revival. The disciples of Jesus obeyed the Lord’s command, gathered together with one heart, and devoted themselves to prayer. As a result, they received the Holy Spirit and their lives were completely transformed (Acts 1:14). Prayer is the power that renews both individuals and the church. Before making plans or beginning any work, we must first kneel before God in prayer. Rather than spending our time in worry and anxiety, we must bring every request before Him. Scripture tells us not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, to present our requests to God (Philippians 4:6). When we remain spiritually awake and continue in prayer each day, God pours out His abundant grace upon our lives.
3. Faith Filled with Love
The final key to the revival of the early Jerusalem church was a faith overflowing with love. Those who had received God’s grace willingly shared their possessions and gave to anyone according to their need, so that no one among them lacked anything (Acts 2:44?45). The believers also gathered together daily with one heart, sharing fellowship with joy and sincerity (Acts 2:46). In the same way, the church today must reject division and conflict, care for one another, and preserve unity (Philippians 2:2?4). Our church must serve neighbors in need with love, care for the weak, and become one through the Holy Spirit. As we practice this kind of love, may we become a church that is respected by the world and one that experiences the grace of seeing people saved day by day.
