Conflict in the Mind
Romans 7:14-25, NIV
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.
16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.
17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.
18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
19 For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do?this I keep on doing.
20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
22 For in my inner being I delight in God's law;
23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.
24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
25 Thanks be to God?through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
Introduction: During the pioneering period in Bulgwang-dong, there was a woman who had lost her husband during the Korean War and was living as a peddler to support her only son.
1. The identity of Adam’s descendents.
1) After the fall of Adam, he gave birth to sons according to his own likeness and image (Ge 5:1-3).
2) Adam’s identity.
① Who was expelled by God.
② Who lives in a cursed land.
③ Whose soul and flesh became a slave to death.
④ A lifelong slave to Satan.
2. The salvation of Jesus Christ.
1) God, born as a human being (Gal 4:4-5).
2) Was born and lived for 33 years without sin (1Jn 3:5; Heb 4:15).
3) Became the sin offering for humankind (Isa 53:5-6; Heb 9:12).
4) Jesus became one with life and death (1Co 15:3-4; 2Ti 1:10).
3. The beginning of conflict.
1) The master of humankind is changed.
① The devil was the master when we were sinners (Eph 2:2-3).
② Jesus is the master when we are saved (Gal 2:20).
2) The battle between the mind and the flesh.
① In mind, we belong to God, but in flesh, to the devil and sin.
② The beginning of the ceaseless struggle (Ro 7:21-24).
3) Strengthen your inner-self.
① Always be close to the Word of God (Jos 1:8; Ro 10:17).
② Pray continually, and repent (Col 4:2; 1Jn 1:9).
③ Share your faith in worship meetings (Ac 2:46; Ps 138:2-3).
④ Pray for the help of the Holy Spirit (Ro 8:1-2, 26).
Conclusion: There will always be conflict, as long as our mind and flesh live together. When we take off this flesh, then our conflict will end.
