A State of Mind
(Matt. 7:1~5)

A clear, gentle weather brings joy and happiness into our hearts. The atmosphere of life is like weather. There are atmospheres that make us feel joyful and happy, but also atmospheres that make us feel depressed and listless. These atmospheres of life are made through conversations with people. Therefore, in order to live a happy life, we must be careful with our words. Conversations with close people such as families and friends bring big changes into the atmosphere of life, so we must be cautious with our words.

1. Refrain from negative criticism
1) Words that make people feel insulted, angry, and have anxiety can cause mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorder, and personality disorder or cause them to commit suicide. Likewise, violent language leaves unforgettable, deep scars in our hearts. (1 Sam. 2:8~9)
2) Nagging from the closest people like parents and spouses can be language of violence. Violent language influences our hearts and bodies negatively. In addition, it brings disunity in organizations, and takes away joy and happiness in people’s hearts. (Prov. 18:6)

2. Say hopeful words
1) There are people who speak negatively about themselves, and they become discouraged and fall in despair. We must speak hopeful words not only to other people, but also to ourselves. (Ps. 42:5)
2) Praise breeds willingness. We must always figure out other people’s strong points and compliment them. In addition, we must make sure that hopes overflow in all conversations. (Prov. 27:21)

3. Give thanks and praise to God
1) People who give thanks and praise to God honor God. (Ps. 50:23)
2) Paul and Silas gave thanks and praise even in the prison in Philippi. (Acts 16:25~26)

Conclusion
Humans are social beings. People do not live alone. They live together by having conversations with two or three people. Conversations with people can bring hopes and encouragement, but can also be violent language that oppresses others. Violence does not only involve a fistfight. It can be committed with spoken words. Language of violence is to make others feel insulted and upset. We must forgive each other with Jesus’ love, and always have conversations that give dreams and hopes.
