Guard Your Heart, for It Is the Wellspring of Life
(Prov. 4:23)
Every time we welcome the new year, we expect that our dreams will come true and good things will happen. In order for those expectations to materialize in our life, we must prepare a vessel of our heart. God completely fills the prepared vessel of our heart with good things.
1. Resist the devil
1) The devil attacks our hearts with lies. The devil deceived Adam and Eve who were the ancestors of humanity with lies. Even today, he steals and kills and destroys people’s life with lies.
2) To guard our hearts, we must resist the devil that brings worries and fear. And we must firmly believe in our Almighty God who gives life to the dead and brings things that are not as though they were.
2. Stand firm on the Word of God
1) In order to not be deceived by the devil’s lies and to guard our hearts, we must stand firm on the word of God. The word of God is spiritual food. In the same way we eat every day so that our bodies are healthy, we must eat the word of God every day so that our hearts become strong and that the devil will not gain a foothold.
2) Look to the cross of Jesus and mediate on the fivefold gospel and threefold blessing day and night. Then, the devil can’t make us fall with negative, desperate and destructive thoughts.
3. Make a confession of absolute positivity
1) When we have filled our hearts with the word of God, we must confess the word with our mouths. If we say, “I can do it. It will be done when I do it. Let me do this,” God will work.
2) Through death and resurrection, Jesus has already given us victory. Therefore, we must look to the cross and make a confession of absolute positivity no matter what kind of situations we face.
4. Have a bold faith
1) In order to guard our hearts, we must have bold faith. As we live our lives, fearful things and difficulties come every day. But we must rely on God and have bold faith.
2) David confessed, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (Ps. 23:4) When we pass through the valley of the shadow of death, we can move forward with a bold heart because God is with us and He protects us.
