They Will Not Overcome You
(Jer. 1:17~19)
People with negative image will make others have troubles as well as himself or herself. We should have a renewed self-image after believing in Jesus. As a new identity of a beloved child of God, we should live a victorious life in the Lord.
1. Do not be terrified by them
When Jeremiah was prophesizing, Judah was in great turmoil. Domestically, people are corrupted morally and spiritually while they were in trouble because of the external threats caused by the attack of Babylon. However, God called Jeremiah and asked him to make people repent with proclaiming God’s judgment. He knew that there would be a lot of obstacles, but God asked him not to be afraid. God promised that God would be with him. (Jer. 1:8) We don’t need to be afraid when evil spirits attack us as Jesus defeated the darkness. Whatever happens, let us fix our eyes onto God and march forward with strong faith.
2. I will make you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall
God told Jeremiah to be a fortified city, an iron pillar, and a bronze wall. Jeremiah had to face the king, powerful officials, and the priests. He didn’t have political power but God promised that He will make him powerful enough by lifting him. The man who is lifted by God is greater than anyone in the world. (1Sam 2:9) We are often attacked by evil spirits when we take responsibilities as the children of God. However, God will make us a bronze wall, which will not be collapsed. Let us have unfailing faith in the Lord. Almighty God is with us.
3. They will not overcome you
God said that no other enemy would overcome Jeremiah. The message of the Lord is same for us. The Almighty God protects us by saving us from the various depressing and frustrating moments. With God, we will overcome the troubles with the abundant grace of God. No one and nothing in the world can hinder the love of God which is taking care of us. Don’t look at the surrounding problems and impending difficulties, try to remain in the Lord. We will fight against the devils to gain victories not by our own power and abilities but by the grace of the cross of Jesus.
