Jesus Walks with Us on the Path of Life
(Luke 24:13-16; 30-32)
There are four seasons: spring, summer, fall, and winter. We have four seasons of life: spring of hope, summer of passion, fall of harvest, and winter of adversities. Sometimes we laugh. Sometimes we cry. How can we overcome difficult moment when we cannot do everything to meet our wishes, feeling that our life goes down?
1. Two disciples go downhill
After the death of Jesus on the cross, the two disciples were going to Emmaus from Jerusalem. (Lk. 24:13-14) The way was the journey of frustration, despair, and sorrow. The two going to Emmaus are like us. People filled with sorrow and frustration in the world go downhill because of COVID-19, diseases, broken family, and business failures. However, Jesus does not abandon us when we are going downhill with troubles. Jesus comes to us to make us rise. When you are confronted with frustration and troubles, look at Jesus. Jesus, the hope for all human beings, will walk with us.
2. Jesus walks with us on the path of life
The resurrected Jesus himself came up and walked along with the two disciples. (Lk. 24:15) Jesus didn't only meet the two disciples captured by hopelessness 2000 years ago. Jesus is coming to us when we are going downhill because of diseases, troubles, poverty, curses, and all kinds of inner scars. However, the two didn't recognize Jesus at first as they were filled with depression and sorrow. (Lk. 24:16) Likewise, we go blind spiritually and cannot see Jesus when we are obsessed with others but for Jesus. Living by Jesus with spiritually awake, Jesus gives us real comfort and new strength.
3. Jesus gives the answer to life
Jesus explained to his disciples what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. Jesus told them that he would be sacrificed on the cross and would be resurrected to be honored in the seat of the glory. (Lk. 24:25-27) The words of God have all the answers of our life. When we are sad, depressed, and frustrated, the words of God will give us great comfort, hope, and courage. When Jesus told them the Scriptures, the hearts of the disciples were burning by the work of the Holy Spirit. (Lk. 24:32) Through the words of God, the Holy Spirit helps us to live by being filled with new strength, confidence, and overflowing joy. Let us be filled with the words of God and the fullness of the Holy Spirit so that we overcome the downhill of life thereby living as the witness of the resurrection of Jesus.
