Rahab’s Faith
(Jos. 2:9-11)
A remarkable woman appeared on the scene of Canaan's conquest. Her name was found in Jesus' family tree. Rahab is her name. Who was she and how her name was recorded in the lineage of Jesus, who came as the Messiah according to the king David’s genealogy?
1 Rahab’s status
Rahab lived in Jericho and worked as a prostitute who was socially poor and ignored. People disrespected her and treated her harshly. However, God did not discriminate against anyone and treated all people fairly because God created people in His image, so all people are valuable. (Ge. 1:27) Rahab was not well-liked, but God thought she was precious. All of her family members were saved when the Jericho fell due to her feat of hiding the spies. As a result, don't be disheartened by your past. God still loves you, so be brave so that God can use you preciously.
2. Rahab’s faith
Rahab was very spiritual woman. She knew that God was with the Israelites. As a result, she decided to hide the spies of Israel at her home, putting her life in danger. She also admitted to them that God is the only Almighty God. Her name was able to be recorded in the lineage of Jesus' family tree because she was the faithful woman. (Heb. 11:31) God is always looking for the spiritually faithful people to work with them. Don't live with the old inner being who committed sins. Live as the faithful man to please God.
3. Rahab who saved the whole family
Rahab desired to be saved, both herself and her entire family. After escaping, the spies promised to spare Rahab and her family if she would mark her house with a red cord hung out the window. Rahab and her entire family were eventually preserved according to the spies' promise, while others perished. The red cord is related to the blood of the Passover lamb, the salvation. As Rahab and her family were saved thanks to the red cord, we should be strengthened by the blood of Jesus in order to achieve life victories.
