The Lord Who Is Going Before Us
(Deuteronomy 1:30-33)
We are truly blessed, for we have received Jesus Christ as our Savior and discovered the true purpose of life, living for the glory of God. On the other hand, those who live without a clear purpose and direction struggle to fill their inner emptiness, only to descend further into despair. But God leads His children, who trust and rely on Him completely, into the path of blessing.
1. The Lord who fights for us
Before the Israelites entered Canaan, Moses proclaimed that God would go before them and fight for them (Deuteronomy 1:30). While the Israelites endured 430 years of slavery in Egypt, God judged Egypt with ten plagues. And when the Red Sea blocked their way, He parted the waters so they could cross on dry land. In the same way, God fights for us. If He is with us, no one and nothing can stand against us. May we always walk with Him and achieve triumph in every spiritual battle (Romans 8:37).
2. The Lord who protects us
Moses described God's care for the Israelites in the wilderness as that of a father carrying his child (Deuteronomy 1:31). Just as a parent loves and protects their child, God loves and cares for us. When we are weary and burdened by trials and suffering, He holds us, comforts us, and renews our strength and courage so that we may overcome every hardship (Isaiah 40:27-29). As we rely solely on the Lord, who carries us and walks with us, we can move forward with firm and unwavering faith.
3. The Lord who Guides our path
The Lord, who went before Israel, preparing their resting places and guiding them with fire by night and a cloud by day, is the same God who leads us today (Deuteronomy 1:33). While human hearts often long to discern the future, God has not granted us that ability. Instead, He calls us to reflect on the past, learn from our mistakes, avoid repeating the same sins, and fully commit ourselves to the present. Therefore, we must move forward in faith, stepping toward the blessed future He has promised. May we hold fast to His promises, follow only the Lord who guides our steps, and live solely for His glory.
